Disposals
At True Plumbing we quickly repair & replace garbage disposals. A properly maintained garbage disposal will provide well over a decade of service to your family.
Foreign objects like broken glass and silverware often find their way into your garbage disposer, creating a jam. You should never use your hands to remove objects trapped in your disposer.
If your unit hums but will not operate correctly, your unit is likely clogged. You can try the following:
WARNING: DO NOT place your hands into a garbage disposer
- First look for a reset button on your unit. Press the reset button and try the disposal.
- If resetting didn't work you will need to unplug the unit, or shut off power at the breaker.
- Using a flashlight, look into the drain for any objects stuck in the impeller.
- Remove the object with a pair of tongs or pliers.
- If you are unable to remove the object, or do not see any foreign objects you can use your disposers jam clearing tool. On the bottom of your disposer, you may have a place to insert an alan wrench (one may be attached to the disposal). After inserting a wrench, move the blades back and fourth until they are cleared.
